Spotlight: Stop restricting before predicting

The Wall Street Journal's John Bussey moderated a task-force comprised of Tim Armstrong, chairman and CEO of AOL Inc., Dominic Barton, global managing director at McKinsey & Co., and R. Marcelo Claure, chairman, president and CEO of Brightstar Corp. They were tasked with answering questions such as: What should companies do with big data? How can it be used profitably? How should it be treated? Should there be laws governing its use, as well as internationally recognized safeguards for consumer privacy? How can U.S. companies stay competitive as more countries learn how to process and interpret such data?

They came up with four recommendations on the opportunity itself, rules of the road, cybersecurity standards and a global data treaty. See more here.
