SAIC Introduces cloud-based big data platform

There is no rule saying all big data innovation must come from startups.

Science Applications International Corporation, a scientific, engineering, and technology applications company, and former owner of Telcordia Technologies (previously known as Bellcore), introduced some innovation of its own this week with the launch of DigitalEdge, a big data software platform.

DigitalEdge is SAIC's first technology release coming from its big data optimization solutions for the enterprise. The group calls these solutions its Critical Insights. They are aimed at large enterprises in energy, financial services, health, national security and telecommunications industries.

DigitalEdge facilitates real-time business decisions and generates alerts for applied use cases--such as cyber security threats, electronic financial fraud detection and medical research, the company said.

"The platform can process billions of data records per day while providing situational awareness based on user-defined alerting criteria. It will run in private, public and hybrid cloud environments and can provide output to a number of NoSQL data stores," SAIC added.

Zions Bancorporation is currently working with SAIC to incorporate the DigitalEdge platform into its security intelligence operations. The technology will help the group with its fraud prevention and detection capabilities.
