OG&E leverages Silver Spring, AutoGrid partnership for smart meters

AutoGrid and Silver Spring Networks officially announced a partnership this week to jointly develop demand response solutions for utility companies. The two companies also announced their first joint customer in Oklahoma Gas & Electric.

Silver Spring now provides 42,000 OG&E customers with smart-meter technology, such as smart thermostats and an energy-saving demand response program.

OG&E will leverage the UtilityIQ solution from the two companies. UtilityIQ combines Silver Spring's mesh networking and cloud-based software management solution with AutoGrid's data analysis and integration tools. The tools are designed to maximize utility investments and help customers manage their power.

The big data analytics from AutoGrid will help OG&E measure the effectiveness of promotions and incentives to be smarter about energy use. It also will help the company forecast power requirements.

According to an article from greentechgrid, Silver Spring also announced several other partnerships this week at the DistribuTECH show in San Diego, including a new partnership with Elster, a German smart meter company. AutoGrid announced its own partnership with SAP.
