Hortonworks announces Apache Hadoop for Windows
HortonWorks did its part this week to expand the reach of Apache Hadoop across the enterprise with the release of its new Hortonworks Data Platform for Windows. This is the first Hadoop distribution available for both Linux and Windows.
Still fully open source, the Hortonworks Data Platform is available in a beta release. The Windows version enables organizations to capture, process and share data in any format at scale. Windows Server has a 73 percent market share in its space according to IDC, and Hortonworks' is currently the only Hadoop distribution available on Windows Server as well as Linux.
Users will be able to port Hadoop applications between on-premise and cloud deployments through the HDP for Windows and HDInsight Service.
Herain Oberoi, director of product marketing for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), said Hortonworks' Data Platform for Windows makes Hadoop accessible to more people and provides customers with a great Hadoop-based solution built for Windows Server.
Hortonworks will be presenting its Data Platform for Windows at the Strata Conference this week in Santa Clara, Calif.
