EMC India looks to expand big data analytics, cloud computing training

EMC India has announced that it will offer new courses in data science, analytics and cloud computing to help the country address a growing demand in those fields.

A subsidiary company of the EMC Corporation, EMC Data Storage Systems India said it hopes to train nearly 30,000 people through the certification classes by 2013. The courses will be offered through EMC India's partnership with 250 universities throughout the country.

"Cloud computing is transforming IT and big data is transforming business. But there is shortage of people with requisite skills. It is estimated globally that there is a shortage of around 192,000 data scientists," the company's president, Rajesh Janey, said.

The company said its cloud computing certification will prepare students to make "technical and business decisions" about migrating to the cloud.

"The cloud opportunity in India is expected to create 100,000 jobs by 2015 from 10,000 in 2011," Janey said.

EMC India's parent company also made headlines recently. It announced last week that it was acquiring Silver Tail Systems, a leader in real-time web session intelligence and behavioral analysis. EMC said it expects the acquisition to be completed in the final quarter of 2012.
